About me

Stubborn and curious . . .

Joining the sisterhood

I grew up a case study in reverse psychology. Don’t tell me I can’t do something; next thing you know, I’ll be asking you to hold my beer. So when I turned 60 and started noticing serious signs of aging, I decided I am not going to let this happen. Not yet. I don’t care so much about the wrinkles or the sagging or the strange spots and hairs sprouting up where they shouldn’t be, but I will not let my life fade. I don’t want to just tell my grandchildren stories about when I hiked that trail or kayaked that river, I want to take them on adventures. And I want to still be able to enjoy nature and new adventures in my retirement.

I started this blog not as an expert in all of this, but to join the sisterhood of women who encourage each other to get out and do it. I hope you will enjoy reading about my adventures and will find inspiration for some of your own.

What I blog about

My Story

No, my real name is not Gigi. That’s what my grandbabies call me, and I love being a Gigi 🙂 I have never been particularly athletic or physically strong, but I have always loved the outdoors and outdoor activities. I grew up camping with my family, the second of four daughters. I was the one who sometimes got up before dawn to go fishing with my dad. I always wanted to explore beyond the campsite, sleep in the boat instead of the camper, and put more logs on the fire. Years later when I had four sons, I concluded that God knew what he was doing when he made me a boy mom. All four Eagle Scouts, we shared many years of outdoor activities, both in scouting and as a family. Now I’m in my 60’s, and it’s my time. I’m getting out there. (Along with my sidekick, Dottie.)
